Alex and I cashed in a free Moviewatcher ticket and chose this sweet, though flawed, romantic comedy. The film rests on the shoulders of Steve Carell, and he delivers big time. In a performace much closer to his Little Miss Sunshine sad-sack than The Office's Michael Scott, Carell delivers both the laughs and the heartache. As with La Vie en Rose, the film itself doesn't live up to its lead performance — plot contrivances and movie-quirky situations weigh things down. But this is a hard movie to criticize... it makes you laugh and pulls your heart strings (and even features a nice little Elvis Costello cover). Just fine for a free movie on date night.

I feel it is imperative to document the most hilarious part of your outing to this romantic comedy, and that, of course, is the experience you had before the movie started :-) I have smiled more than once picturing you and Alex coming up with, the following through with, the lie that her brother was going to join you in order to retain your preferred seats without getting into a confrontation. The thought of you listening to our voice mail at the end of the film, then motioning to Alex that her brother called to say he got stuck somewhere, is priceless.
Meanwhile, Maddie, Daniel and I spent our morning drive discussing how we would handle such a rude request and decided the truth might work best. We got her early because these are our favorite seats, so we're not inclined to move, especially as there are myriad seats to be found in the theater.
If that didn't work, I'd tell them to go frak themselves :-) (which is my thought alone, one which I didn't share with Maddie or Daniel).
Yes, it was quite the experience. But I must stress that it was Alex who came up with the lie, while I innocently purchased concessions. I did carry it through to the very end, but it was she who got us into it!
